Michigan has no statewide legislation protecting LGBTQ and gender nonconforming individuals from discrimination in the realms of housing, employment, education and public accommodations and several other areas. In view of the fact that there is a national, indeed global, trend toward outlawing such discrimination, Michigan is not keeping pace with other jurisdictions. It is simply not tolerable that in the 21st century that between 500 thousand and 1.2 million Michigan residents are outside of the protection of the law in these vital areas.
